by admin last modified 2006-09-09 07:44

The government has just released a draft Bill on technological protection measures (TPMs). This Bill is intended to meet Australia’s obligations under the Australia–US Free Trade Agreement. These include sanctions against circumventing TPMs which control access to copyright material, sanctions against manufacturing and supplying devices and services that circumvent access-control mechanisms, and changes to the exemptions relating to circumvention.

The speakers will address the background to the legislation, including the report of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs, and the government’s proposed amendments.
