The Copyright Tribunal's new jurisdiction: 24 May
In December 2006, the jurisdiction of the Copyright Tribunal was expanded in a number of important ways. The Copyright Tribunal determines the rate of payment and other conditions of statutory licences, and other licences administered by copyright collecting societies. The Tribunal’s jurisdiction has been extended to cover additional non-statutory licences administered by collecting societies, such as the licences for associations, corporations and local government administered by Copyright Agency Limited, the artistic works licences administered by Viscopy, and music reproduction licences administered by APRA/AMCOS.
The amendments follow recommendations made by the Copyright Law Review Committee (CLRC) in 2000 following its review of the Copyright Tribunal’s jurisdiction.
